April 1, 2017 JobStart  launched the Women Gaining Ground (WGG) program, funded by United Way Toronto & York Region.  This program is to provide Immigrant and Refugee Women who are 16 years of age and older, born outside of Canada and currently unemployed/underemployed, with the essential tools, knowledge and training to help them gain employment and develop lifelong empowerment. Key components of the program include:

  • Integrated two-week employment readiness workshops (life skills, employability, and self-care)

  • Solution focused 1:1 employment counselling

  • Career exploration and development of SMART action plans

  • FREE workplace skills training and certifications

  • Job placements/internships leading to employment

  • Support in gaining higher education and upgrading skills

  • Post program support
