JobStart’s Employment Centre provides anyone access to today’s most comprehensive employment and labour market resources. If you are a newcomer to Canada, an experienced worker, a person with a disability, student or a youth, scroll down and see how we can help you! We are “Where Futures Begin”.
Newcomers to Canada
JobStart offers services to help newcomers to Canada find employment in their field of expertise and settle into the community. We provide information about community resources such as housing, licensing, settlement services, work placement, and understanding the Canadian workplace culture. For internationally trained IT persons also JobStart has services to assist clients, which include sector- specific IT language training, work placement and employment coaching support.
Adults
Recently laid off? Unemployed? Need help to find a job in the labour market? JobStart provides adults with a menu of services focused on individual needs. Adults can receive one on one job coaching, employment workshops or select from a menu of job search supports.
Persons with Disabilities
JobStart provides employment support for persons with disabilities. Specifically, JobStart can assist post secondary students and Graduates find a job in their chosen career. Participants learn how to market themselves to employers, secure interviews, or keep a job. Employment accommodation assistance is available for clients.
Students
Each year JobStart helps students find employment! In fact, last year we helped over 700 students successfully find summer employment. Many other services are available for students as well. Check under the “Youth” section.
Youth
JobStart provides a variety of services for youth 16 years of age and older. Including resume preparation, apprenticeships, summer jobs, employment counseling and job placements. Assistance is also offered for apprenticeships, literacy and numeracy skills, and preparation for writing the General Education Diploma (GED).
Computer Learning Training Centre
JobStart offers basic computer training at no cost to JobStart clients(this does not apply to visitors to the Employment Resource Center-ERC). For a reasonable rate, JobStart offers computer training to non profit organizations and businesses either on site or at your place of business. Computer courses may include includes Digital Literacy, Computer Fundamentals, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Presentation and Database, and Web Design. Each course is approximately 10 to 24 hours and is instructor led. Upon satisfactory completion participants will receive a Microsoft Technology Skills program certificate for each applicable course completed. Individuals registered as a client in one of our employment programs are eligible to register for free computer training. Call to find out details.
