The Employment Resource Centre is free, self-serve, "walk in" centre that provides access to today's most comprehensive employment resources,
equipment and services. Knowledgeable and professional staff are available to assist in the use of the resources and equipment.

The Employment Resource Centre provides Employment related workshops on topics of interest to job seekers to help them get back to work. Check our Calendar to find out when these workshops are being offered. Many are available several times each month.
Basic Computer Readiness
This workshop is an introduction to the basic skills necessary to use a computer to support you in your job search. Become familiar with the computers in the Employment Resource Centre (ERC), learn how to use the mouse and keyboard, and how to access employment related software.
MS Word
Learn the basic skills to word process a resume and cover letters. Learn how to format a document, save and retrieve a document, delete a word, sentence or paragraph, and how to spell check your document.
Excel
Review the basics of how to use Excel to prepare you for an interview with an employer. Learn how to customize headers, create tables and save your documents.
PowerPoint
Learn the basics of PowerPoint as a presentation tool to present your information in an interview to an employer. Learn how to use PowerPoint wizards to make preparing the presentation easier. Create and understand PowerPoint slide masters and templates.
Developing Your Resume
This 2-hour workshop gives you an opportunity to learn how to create a resume that is targeted to specific work of interest, or help you get a job interview. Find out what goes in a resume, what are transferable skills and how to highlight them, the do’s and don’ts of resume writing, the different types of resumes and the five essentials parts of a resume and how to develop them.
Electronic Resume
Learn the essential skills in creating an electronic resume and avoid common errors.. Get tips on using your e-resume to succeed in the online job market.
Effective Cover/Broadcast Letters
Learn tips and understand the need and purpose of cover/broadcast letters when communicating to employers. Increase self-confidence when writing a response to classified ads or job postings.
Interview Skills
Part 1 – This 2-hour workshop discusses the role and importance of the interview in the job search process, and presents practical tips, techniques and strategies highlighting the four-part process of effective job interviews.
Part 2 – Apply your new understanding of Interview Skills with a facilitator in a Mock Interview.
Market Yourself/Networking
Find out where the jobs are. Learn how to use the networking process and the hidden job market to expand your personal contacts. Create a personal job skill “infomercial” to assist you in your job search.

An introduction to the types of business directories available to support you in your job search. Learn the definition of “business directory”, and how to use business directories to generate employment leads and identify companies in your field of interest.
Making the Most of Job Fairs/Trade Shows
Learn secrets of trade shows and job fairs. Create a great “First Impression” and learn the skills to market your info commercial to Employers.
How to Job Search on the Net
Part 1 – Review the basic functions of the Internet. Learn how to access employment sites such as the Employment Ontario and Service Canada Web sites. Links to the Job Bank.
Part 2 – Create a free personal e-mail address and master the art of composing and sending an electronic resume. Learn how to perform a search on the Internet for Labour Market information, how to research company information and Websites, and access on-line applications.
